Before a septic system can be installed in Florida, a permit is required. As of January 2025, septic system permitting in North Florida is handled by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
The easiest way to begin the process is by hiring a private soil evaluator. The soil evaluator will conduct a soil test and help complete the permit application. They use the square footage and number of bedrooms in the home or mobile home to determine the proper size of the septic system. They also locate the water table to determine the maximum depth the system can be installed.
Once the evaluation is complete, the application is submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for approval.
Because every property and septic system is different, the permit allows us to determine exactly what type of system is required and provide an accurate final price for installation.
